Our data, expertise and more were featured in many prominent publications, such as USA Today, The Post & Courier, ZDNet, CPA Practice Advisor and Inside Philanthropy.

      • USA Today – Cancer society hopes crowdfunding attracts Millennial donors – Although the Case Foundation found 84% of Millennials made a charitable donation in 2014, an earlier report by Blackbaud, a maker of software and services targeting the non-profit industry, found that adults ages 18-32 comprised only 11% of total giving, the smallest portion of any age group studied.
      • The Post & Courier – Get to know Carolyn Finch, executive director of Charleston Women in Tech – One of the most notable women leaders in our community would have to be Mary Beth Westmoreland, chief technology officer of Blackbaud, who is setting the bar for women seeking careers in tech, as well as setting an example as a woman who is truly passionate and engaged with the Charleston community. Not only is she concerned with the ability of her company to embrace women in tech and sees the need for increased diversity, but she extends this hope to the Charleston tech community as a whole.
      • CPA Practice Advisor – 2016 Review of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT – Best Fit: Financial Edge NXT, from Blackbaud is well suited for mid-sized nonprofit organizations, NGO’s, and government entities that desire the flexibility of an online product. Product Strengths: Mobile friendly interface; Integrates with all Blackbaud financial and fundraising applications; Excellent help and support options available; Grant management module available Potential Weaknesses: May not be the best solution for smaller nonprofits.
      • ZDNet – And the winners of the 2016 CRM Watchlist are… – The winners of the CRM Watchlist 2016 are here!! After reading thousands of pages and scoring them ruthlessly and brutally, the Elites, winners with distinction, regular winners, honorable mentions and a couple of organizations that I’ve singled out for other reasons, have been decided. Blackbaud was awarded Winners with distinction – Fell just short of Elite, but cream of the crop of winners.
      • Inside Philanthropy – Why Aren’t We Engaging More Diverse Donors? – This tendency to view donor engagement through one lens, rather than many, is confirmed in Diversity in Giving: The Changing Landscape of American Philanthropy, a 2015 study by the Blackbaud technology firm in Charleston, South Carolina. The study noted that the foundation that “America is in the midst of a dramatic cultural shift, but evidence suggests that organized philanthropy may be stuck in the past… We built complex look-alike models allowing us to better fish the same fishing holes for the same donors.”

Blackbaud Publishes eBook to Help Schools Engage Major Donors

Leading fundraising expert outlines key practices for crafting compelling messages for fundraising campaigns

Charleston, S.C. (Feb. 23, 2016) — Blackbaud, Inc. (NASDAQ: BLKB), the leading provider of software and services for the global philanthropic community, today announced the availability of a new eBook highlighting best practices for creating fundraising messages for schools that resonate with major donors. The eBook is part one of a six-part series offering resources to K-12 schools.

Written by Joe Garecht, a nonprofit fundraising consultant and founder of The Fundraising Authority, The Major Donor Message: How to Create a Fundraising Message for Your School that Resonates with Major Donors offers private and independent schools with an in-depth guide to generating a school’s story in order to find and build relationships with key school donors. With a clear message in place, schools are able to explain the importance of the investment they are seeking and what it means for the school community. A donor’s investment supports the goals and vision of the school, and further enables the school to build upon its story for future fundraising campaigns.

“Building relationships with alumni, parents, philanthropists and local businesses plays a critical role in a school’s fundraising campaign and plan,” Garecht said. “Schools thrive on the generous contributions from their alumni and parent family, but it’s so important to create a strategy that tells a story that not only resonates with a major donor, but also encourages them to contribute to the overall vision and success of the school itself.”

      Blackbaud’s Major Donors eBook explores:

      • The four keys to building relationships with donors
      • Telling a school’s story
      • Creating a school’s story arc
      • Building a case for donor support
      • The process of writing a school’s case for support

“Fundraising programs and major donors play a key role in helping private and independent schools succeed by providing unique opportunities for students and teachers to learn and grow, both professionally and academically,” said Travis Warren, president of Blackbaud’s K-12 Private Schools Group. “This new eBook will outline how schools can more effectively build relationships and interact with past, present and future donors to ensure consistent and large gifts are donated to their school.”

      Press Coverage Highlights from 1/30/16 – 2/11/16

Our data, expertise and more were featured in many prominent publications, such as The Chronicle of Philanthropy, MarketWatch, Nonprofit Technology News, and The Post & Courier.

      • The Huffington Post – Charitable Giving Up Nearly 2% in 2015 – Blackbaud just released its latest Charitable Giving Report, which provides largest analysis of real fundraising data from more than 5,300 nonprofit organizations in the United States. The report represents more than $18.2 billion in total fundraising data and $2.2 billion in online fundraising from 2015.

      • The Huffington Post – The Benefits of Online Fundraising: Perspective from Covenant House -Blackbaud found that charitable giving increased 2.1% in 2014. That sounds like a lot–until you find out that online giving increased by nearly 9%, four times the increase in overall giving. That trend held across organizations of all sizes, working in all sectors.

      • PYMNTS.com – Acquisition Strengthens BluePay’s Nonprofit Payments Game – The nonprofit sector has been the focus of attention from other FinTech players in recent years, too. Blackbaud, for instance, rolled out last year its Financial Edge NXT solution for the industry, a new software service to provide AP and AR management, corporate banking and other accounting and finance offerings built directly for nonprofit companies.

      • The Chronicle of Philanthropy – Growth in Rate of Giving Slows, Report Says – Charitable donations grew for the fourth year in a row in 2015, although at a slower rate than in previous years, according to a report released today. Giving grew 1.6 percent last year, compared with 2.1 percent in 2014 and 4.9 percent in 2013, according to the report by the fundraising software company Blackbaud.

      • NonProfit Pro – 5 Reasons Why Adding a 5K to Your Walk Is a Terrible Idea – 5K registrants don’t raise much money. In fact, they rarely even try. Looking at the amount of outreach they attempt, according to Blackbaud Peer-to-Peer Benchmark Study, it’s clear that the only bar most of them are clearing is the one to register. And that makes perfect sense. They are, by and large, out for a running experience.

      • The NonProfit Times – Giving Up 1.6%, Online Gifts Still In Single Digits – The online portion of charitable giving continued on its dial-up-speed ascension in 2015, representing just 7.1 percent of charitable giving, up from 6.7 percent in 2014. The small share restrained online giving’s overall 9.2 percent increase from making a bigger dent in overall giving, which climbed by 1.6 percent in 2015. The data is from Blackbaud’s 2015 Charitable Giving Report, which tracked overall giving data for 5,379 nonprofits throughout the 2014 and 2015 calendar years.

Blackbaud Launches Transformational Outcomes Solution to Accelerate Impact in the Giving Community

New cloud solution unites funders and nonprofits, empowering them to
measure program outcomes and tell their impact stories

Charleston, S.C. (February 4, 2016) – Blackbaud, Inc. (NASDAQ: BLKB), the leading provider of software and services for the global philanthropic community, today announced the general availability of Blackbaud Outcomes™, its transformational cloud solution that solves key challenges experienced by funders and nonprofits as the sector evolves from traditional philanthropy to social, or impact investing.

“Forward-thinking grantmakers and nonprofits know that achieving their missions depends on data: they use it to inform their decisions, measure their outcomes and impact, and to tell the stories of the great work they do,” said Andrew Wolk, CEO of Root Cause, a Blackbaud Outcomes partner. “Effective technology turns data into a bridge. As the giving sector shifts toward proving impact, technology can connect funders and their grantees as partners around shared goals, accountability, and results. It’s a powerful tool for increasing collaboration, driving higher performance, and improving people’s lives.”

In this environment of increased focus on accountability and transparency, it has never been more important for the giving community to track and understand the specific and measurable impact of their programs so that they can make informed investment decisions. Blackbaud’s MicroEdge business has spent the past five years connecting with clients and other leaders in the sector, conducting over 5,000 interviews along the way to create this industry-changing solution. And with its sector-sourced outcomes measurement taxonomy, Blackbaud Outcomes is the first solution to provide a common outcomes measurement language, empowering funders and nonprofits to truly understand the impact they are making and to tell their success stories using statistics, results and a shared language.

“Many of our clients have hundreds of grantees that are reporting metrics in hundreds of different ways, despite the fact that many of their programs support similar initiatives. With the outcomes measurement taxonomy in Blackbaud Outcomes, they will now be able to identify, track and report on the most important metrics with consistency,” said Kristin Nimsger, president of Blackbaud’s Foundation and Corporate Markets Group.

Blackbaud Outcomes is the company’s latest release in its modern cloud built exclusively for the philanthropic community. Leveraging Blackbaud SKY™ capabilities and powered by Microsoft Azure, this new solution connecting nonprofits and funders offers unprecedented innovation within the most secure, scalable and highest-performing cloud environment available.

Blackbaud Outcomes is already receiving attention from industry experts for its analytical power and advancements in bridging the taxonomy divide. “By linking investments and actions to impact and achievement, Blackbaud Outcomes creates a data standard and common language across nonprofits and foundations. This also creates the opportunity for the philanthropic community and their grantee partners to learn from others, improve the outcomes they achieve, and better tell their results story,” said Gillian Williams, president of the Rensselaerville Institute.

“Blackbaud Outcomes provides a unified experience that allows funders and nonprofits to better collaborate and align their missions through data and shared insights,” said Mike Gianoni, president and CEO of Blackbaud. “The launch of this Blackbaud SKY-enabled solution is just another example of how Blackbaud is not only empowering philanthropic organizations with modern, innovative and high-performance technology solutions, but also connecting this community together like no other partner to power an ecosystem of good.”
