Cornell Cooperative Extension Selects Financial Edge NXT to Manage Financial Processes

Like other cooperative extensions across the country, CCE’s decentralized operating environment, highly specific reporting requirements, and grant fiduciary responsibilities requires advanced accounting software to meet its needs. After using another system for years, CCE came to recognize the inefficiencies and limitations in their processes which included significant manual effort to meet grant-reporting requirements and lack of visibility into local office operations. In addition, CCE desired to move to a cloud solution that could enhance data security and alleviate the technical burden on its IT staff.

Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) chose Financial Edge NXT™ to manage its complex reporting requirements and financial processes associated with its 50+ offices throughout the state of New York.

Blackbaud’s singular focus on providing innovative software, services, and expertise to the nonprofit and government sectors was a key factor in deciding the best long-term partner. CCE saw Blackbaud’s financial strength and commitment to cloud technology as evidence that Financial Edge NXT will be an industry-leading cloud accounting solution with innovative features for years to come.

CCE knew that Financial Edge NXT was the right solution for its users to effectively manage all aspects of contracts (in real time) and grants while supporting indirect cost allocations and cost sharing, and giving them the ability to view project to date balances without having to develop a data warehouse or middleware for analysis. With Financial Edge NXT, CCE is also able to standardize overall configuration and processing across the 50+ county level associations, which allows for strong internal controls, an efficient roll up of information, and reporting at any level of the Extension.

In addition to these technical benefits, CCE recognized the need to construct a change management plan to ensure organizational buy-in across offices, expecting to face internal challenges when changing business processes or implementing a new solution. Blackbaud incorporated change management consulting into the implementation methodology and with its focus on people and their needs, Blackbaud demonstrated a robust approach to change management which was equally important for CCE.

Finally, Blackbaud’s extensive domain knowledge and experience around the business issues facing the organization mean the right partnership is in place to drive more efficient accounting, and ultimately, enhanced delivery of CCE’s programs across New York State.

“Ultimately, we decided to partner with Blackbaud because they demonstrated the most detailed consideration of our needs throughout the selection process.  They really dove in to understand our operating model and reporting requirements in a way that made us feel they were dedicated to ensuring our success on Financial Edge NXT.  With Blackbaud’s help, we believe will have better information to run our business while increasing the efficiency of our financial operations.” – Jennifer Holleran, Assistant Director, Business Operations, CCE
